Automobiles
The automobile is a wheeled vehicle that has seats for one or more people and is powered by an internal combustion engine or an electric motor. The branches of engineering that deal with the manufacture and technology of automobiles are called automotive engineering.
Karl Benz, a German engineer, invented the modern automobile around 1885. He developed a four-stroke type of internal combustion engine. He used a simple carburetor to regulate the amount of fuel mixed with air to give the engine power.
Henry Ford, a businessman, came after Karl Benz and revolutionized the way cars were made. He developed the assembly line, which allowed cars to be made more quickly and at less cost. This meant that more people could afford to own automobiles.
Many advantages of owning a car include convenience and comfort. They allow you to travel wherever and whenever you want, without having to wait for a bus or taxi. You can also control the temperature inside the car and listen to your own music or radio. Many jobs and social activities require that you be mobile, so having a car allows you to get there more quickly than using public transportation.
Disadvantages of owning a car include high maintenance costs and the need to find parking. Most cars run on gasoline, which is a non-renewable resource and causes emissions of carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas. This can be reduced by buying a more fuel-efficient car or by taking shorter trips.
