The Benefits of Automobiles
Having access to an automobile opens up the world of work possibilities and social opportunities because you can travel further distances with ease. You can have a job in one town and your home in another while still being able to visit family, friends or other acquaintances in the middle. Moreover, it allows you to carry groceries or equipment that are too big to transport on public transportation. It also provides a personal and controlled environment where you can adjust the temperature, music or seating to suit your needs. Moreover, for individuals living in places where there are no good public transportation options, having a car can be essential for getting to work, school or shopping centers.
Exactly who invented the modern automobile is not known with certainty but many think it was Karl Benz of Germany who built his Benz Patent-Motorwagen in 1886. However, it was American Henry Ford who made it more widely available to the masses by using assembly lines and his Model T to mass produce cars that were affordable.
Automobiles use large amounts of gasoline which produces harmful gases that contribute to air pollution. The gases can affect the health of humans and other animals but scientists have been working on ways to reduce the harm such as with new types of gas and catalytic converters. Moreover, some manufacturers have created alternative fuel cars that run on electricity or biofuel instead of gasoline. These are referred to as hybrid vehicles.
