Traveling and Hotels
About Traveling and hotels
Hospitality is a global industry that includes hotel management, restaurants, convention centers and cruise lines to name just a few. The courses of study in the BMCC Hotels, Travel and Tourism (HTT) program prepare students to work in any of these segments or in any other area that is part of the industry.
Getting to know your options
While the number of lodging alternatives has increased, hotel brands continue to invest in their properties and offer loyalty programs that can be lucrative for travelers. Whether it’s a kinetic art screen that greets guests by name, designer toiletries from boutique brand Apotheke or large trash and recycling baskets in rooms because “80% of our guests live out of their suitcase,” these changes are designed to make the stay as comfortable as possible.
Some hotels are also catering to adventure travelers by offering scuba diving through an underwater art gallery or capsule suites hanging from cliffs. This shift in consumer preference has been fueled by a desire for distinct travel experiences that can be more culturally immersive and less relaxing than a traditional vacation.
Travelers looking for a specific type of accommodation can use online travel agencies, such as Expedia or trivago, to find the best price for their stay. These sites can be used to find a variety of accommodations, including budget hostels and luxury suites. They can be sorted by price, distance from the destination, star category and facilities.
